My idea for my Graphic Design Project was to inspire working out as an idea to push one to be the best that they can be and to inspire one’s self in doing so. I changed my background to several pictures instead of one and created a poster that inspires working out in general and specifically in the outdoors. My initial idea for my Graphic Design Project was to use the city of San Francisco as a symbol of inspiration, but this ended up being confusing in my execution of the idea. I then modified my poster to have several outdoor pictures that I took myself. This allowed for the idea that working out is something that can be done anywhere and anytime. I chose to then implement the icons that I had used in my first draft in my final draft and to delete the dumbbell icon as I thought it was out of place. I aligned the icons with the correct background in order to clearly demonstrate that working out can be done anywhere and at any time.
What inspired me in my final draft was Nature and the outdoors. Everyone is always caught up in going to the gym and staying active, but we often forget the idea that Nature is always just a few steps away. Nature in itself is inspiring in that fact that it is everchanging such like we are. Nature allows us to focus on the good and the beautiful. When one is getting fresh air, it allows one’s mind to become clearer and this is enhanced when one works out. When you combine these two ideas it allows one to strive to become the best that they can be. Nature in itself is inspiring and when one combines this with working out, it can only improve one’s way of life.
In my project I used Gestalt’s Theory to portray my ideas and to input them accordingly. I made use of proximity and similarity specifically in this project, as this helped to interpret my message in a more obvious form. I also made use of the idea of visual harmony in my project. I matched my icons with the appropriate background and did the same with “Workout to Inspire”. This allowed for the idea that inspiration for working out can come from anywhere especially the world that is just right outside our doors.
In order to create my poster, I drew from the inspiration in my camera roll and Nature. I used the application Photoshop, in this I was able to reference back to the tutorials such as adjustment layers, text and effects, as well as cutouts and blending modes. I did run into many obstacles when creating this poster. I was able to give myself enough time to have many trials and errors in order to figure out the application and implement the tools that I needed in order to create my project. Photoshop and Adobe are not easy to navigate and giving one’s self enough time to fail will allow for success in the end.
