My logo draft project

The theme for my projects and throughout this semester is focused around inspiring and working out. In my logo project I chose to focus on one thing, Nature.  Nature is ever inspiring, as it is ever changing and adapting.  Humans are the same in which we are always striving to be better and to do better in addition to adapting to events that occur in our lives. In light of this, many choose to recharge themselves by spending time outside or going to work out.  I chose to focus on this for my logo protect and link these two ideas together by creating the slogan “Get Outside, Get Moving”.

In order to come up with this idea I chose to look at stickers that focused on the Pacific Northwest and the outdoors in general. This allowed me to come up with this idea and to translate it into a logo that fit with my topic.  In order to form the idea of my logo, I did research.  I looked at what makes a logo important and relevant and how it allows the company to shine through it. This is when I came up with the idea of “Get Outside, Get Moving”. I then focused on the idea of scalability, shape and color.  In this I was able to execute my idea for the slogan and come up with a logo that matched it.

In order to create my logo, I made use of the Illustrator tutorials that we had previously learned.  I specifically drew from the Pencil illustration and the Banner design tutorials. In order to create my logo, I made use of line segment tool and the type tool.  I started my design by creating lines in order to make the diamond outline of my logo.  I then created the lines at the bottom of the logo to make it have some texture and to make appear to seem as though there were paths or a ground of some sort. This allowed for perspective.  I then created the mountain like outlines using the line segment tool again.  I then implemented my slogan with the type tool.  Once I was able to manipulate this in the area that I desired, I added a green colored gradient to all but the mountains in order to have the logo appear as close to a representation of nature as possible.  The only recommendation that I have to others is to give yourself time, as many mistakes can be made when rushing through Illustrator.

  1. Hi Lindsey!
I love the idea behind your logo. The simplistic design is very cool. A big thing for me is trying to think of what is the first thing someone thinks of when they see something. For me, when I see your logo, the first thing I think of is going out into the mountains. I see that you wanted to focus on Nature. Now if you are trying to portray more of being active/working out/just being outside, I would recommend maybe having a stick figure running across the first green line and have the it in front of GET MOVING. Moving on, I am glad that you mentioned scalability. This would look great as a sticker! The hexagon shape is very attention grabbing. I think this is a very good logo and has a lot of potential still!

  2. The whole idea of the logo is really cool, and really creative as well. I like that you did green and black, because it is simple, but not boring at all. I would say if you wanted to make it flow more, you could maybe just do one font, instead of doing two separate ones. You could also just do one line and say, ‘Get Moving’ or just ‘Get Outside’ so it’s simpler and more straight forward. It would also be really cool if you made the outline of the logo, a mountain itself so the top part of the lines were the outlines of the mountain. I also like the font you used on the bottom, it’s bold and cool to look at, so you could also make that the main text font.

  3. I think that my design not only executes my goal for all of my blog overall but allows for the creation of its own idea as well. I think that this draft logo does need to be improved. I think that there is a significant aspect missing. I believe that I should add some sort of figures in order to execute the idea to “keep moving”. I think that I could do this by creating figures that are working out or doing outdoor activities, this would clearly represent the phrase in my logo about “Get Outside”. The other thing that I wish to improve is the gradient of my entire logo. I feel that it is not unified and feels as though it is still separated by the lines that I have drawn. This goes for the mountains as well, I feel as though these could be made to seem more realistic rather than just being the basic outlines of a mountain range.

  4. Hi Lindsey! I’d like to start by saying how much I love the way you use color and simple lines in your logo. The overall hexagon shape is absolutely my favorite part. It’s cool how every line is a separate object so the gradient begins a new with every stroke. The simple mountains and the use of green are perfect add a feeling of nature into the mix. There’s so much I like that it’s hard to choose something to critique. I suppose I’ll start by suggesting you remove the gradient effect on the text so it would be easier to read. Possibly by making the top text a darker shade of green and the bottom text a lighter, but no so light that it’s hard to see on a light backdrop, green. I don’t know if this counts as a compliment or a critique, but I noticed on your sketch that you had some stick figures on the lines and I thought it was wise of you to leave those out. Simple is better and they’d be too small to see clearly. I bring this up because, while I love the green, the only other critique I could think of would be to make the bottom half of the hexagon a gradient blue and the lines could be waves like a lake. You’d have to make the mountains green for the sake of continuity, and maybe make the bottom text blue as well for the same reason. It’s just a thought and honestly, if you try it out and it doesn’t look great, there won’t be any hard feelings as the two-color thing with green and black is pretty great.
