My logo draft project

The theme for my projects and throughout this semester is focused around inspiring and working out. In my logo project I chose to focus on one thing, Nature.  Nature is ever inspiring, as it is ever changing and adapting.  Humans are the same in which we are always striving to be better and to do better in addition to adapting to events that occur in our lives. In light of this, many choose to recharge themselves by spending time outside or going to work out.  I chose to focus on this for my logo protect and link these two ideas together by creating the slogan “Get Outside, Get Moving”.

In order to come up with this idea I chose to look at stickers that focused on the Pacific Northwest and the outdoors in general. This allowed me to come up with this idea and to translate it into a logo that fit with my topic.  In order to form the idea of my logo, I did research.  I looked at what makes a logo important and relevant and how it allows the company to shine through it. This is when I came up with the idea of “Get Outside, Get Moving”. I then focused on the idea of scalability, shape and color.  In this I was able to execute my idea for the slogan and come up with a logo that matched it.

In order to create my logo, I made use of the Illustrator tutorials that we had previously learned.  I specifically drew from the Pencil illustration and the Banner design tutorials. In order to create my logo, I made use of line segment tool and the type tool.  I started my design by creating lines in order to make the diamond outline of my logo.  I then created the lines at the bottom of the logo to make it have some texture and to make appear to seem as though there were paths or a ground of some sort. This allowed for perspective.  I then created the mountain like outlines using the line segment tool again.  I then implemented my slogan with the type tool.  Once I was able to manipulate this in the area that I desired, I added a green colored gradient to all but the mountains in order to have the logo appear as close to a representation of nature as possible.  The only recommendation that I have to others is to give yourself time, as many mistakes can be made when rushing through Illustrator.

My Logo Sketch

The theme for my projects is to get outside and workout and that this will then inspire one in other parts of life. This logo not only inspires to get moving and motivated but to get outside in general.

Final Graphic Design Project

My idea for my Graphic Design Project was to inspire working out as an idea to push one to be the best that they can be and to inspire one’s self in doing so. I changed my background to several pictures instead of one and created a poster that inspires working out in general and specifically in the outdoors.  My initial idea for my Graphic Design Project was to use the city of San Francisco as a symbol of inspiration, but this ended up being confusing in my execution of the idea.  I then modified my poster to have several outdoor pictures that I took myself.  This allowed for the idea that working out is something that can be done anywhere and anytime.  I chose to then implement the icons that I had used in my first draft in my final draft and to delete the dumbbell icon as I thought it was out of place. I aligned the icons with the correct background in order to clearly demonstrate that working out can be done anywhere and at any time.

What inspired me in my final draft was Nature and the outdoors.  Everyone is always caught up in going to the gym and staying active, but we often forget the idea that Nature is always just a few steps away.  Nature in itself is inspiring in that fact that it is everchanging such like we are.  Nature allows us to focus on the good and the beautiful.  When one is getting fresh air, it allows one’s mind to become clearer and this is enhanced when one works out.  When you combine these two ideas it allows one to strive to become the best that they can be. Nature in itself is inspiring and when one combines this with working out, it can only improve one’s way of life.

In my project I used Gestalt’s Theory to portray my ideas and to input them accordingly.  I made use of proximity and similarity specifically in this project, as this helped to interpret my message in a more obvious form.  I also made use of the idea of visual harmony in my project. I matched my icons with the appropriate background and did the same with “Workout to Inspire”.  This allowed for the idea that inspiration for working out can come from anywhere especially the world that is just right outside our doors.

In order to create my poster, I drew from the inspiration in my camera roll and Nature.  I used the application Photoshop, in this I was able to reference back to the tutorials such as adjustment layers, text and effects, as well as cutouts and blending modes.  I did run into many obstacles when creating this poster.  I was able to give myself enough time to have many trials and errors in order to figure out the application and implement the tools that I needed in order to create my project.  Photoshop and Adobe are not easy to navigate and giving one’s self enough time to fail will allow for success in the end.

Graphic Design Draft Project

My idea for my Graphic Design Project was to inspire working out as an idea to push one to be the best that they can be and to inspire one’s self in doing so.  In this poster I chose to show the different types of activities and workouts that one can do on their own.  I chose to show the icon for swimming, biking, hiking, running and lifting.  I included these as they are activities that can be done in a gym but can also be done outdoors and without restrictions.  I chose to use a picture of San Francisco for the background as I felt it catered to a wide variety of people and portrayed a city of opportunity.

What inspired me in this project was the city of San Francisco.  I was scrolling through my photos and found this picture that I had taken.  It then made me think of all of the outdoor and physical activities that I partake in when I go home.  This then made me realize that this was perfect for my Graphic Design project, as the city inspires me to find opportunities and thus can have the same effect on others and their workout habits as well.

In my project I used Gestalt’s Theory to portray my ideas and to input them accordingly.  I made use of proximity and similarity specifically in this project, as this helped to interpret my message in a more obvious form.  I also made use of the idea visual harmony in my project. I matched my icons with the white colored city in the background and did the same with “Workout to Inspire” and matched these with the color of the bridge.

In order to create this inspirational poster, I made use of the application Photoshop.  In this I was able to reference back to the tutorials such as adjustment layers, text and effects, as well as cutouts and blending modes.  I did run into many obstacles when creating this poster, but I was able to give myself enough time to have many trials and errors in order to figure out the application and implement the tools that I needed in order to create my project.  The one tip that I can recommend is to give yourself time for trial and error.  Photoshop and the Adobe software are not easy to navigate and giving one’s self enough time to fail will allow for success in the end.

My Image Collection

My idea for this project is to make a poster to inspire working out as a positively beneficial idea rather than a chore. In this I will portray not one way of working out but rather on the overall benefits and how they can positively influence one’s daily life.

My Fitness Journey

I think it is in almost everyone’s human nature to want to improve one’s self.  It is constantly portrayed to us to better ourselves and to do the best that we possibly can.  I think it is everyone’s goal to become more fit and to strive to be healthier in one’s daily life. This can be seen through working on one’s self in the sense of eating better or in the sense of staying active.

I am always striving to be healthier.  This is seen through my eating habits or through the creating of another goal for myself while working out.  I have always been active throughout my life, whether it be participating in high school sports or working out every other day at the gym or outside.  I am always looking for more ways to be active and to better myself.   I plan to collect my material this semester through the widespread variety of workouts that I partake in, as well as trying new activities.

I have many ideas for this semester’s unit projects, many stem from the same idea that companies such like CYCLEBAR and SoulCycle get their motivation from. Throughout these four units, I am going to focus on positivity and how it affects all around working out rather than focusing specifically on a certain type of exercise.

In the first unit project, the Graphic Design Project, I am going to make a poster that is positively inspirational.  In this I will portray not one way of working out but rather focus on the benefits overall and how it can positively influence one’s daily life.  In my unit four video story, I will portray a variety of workout routines and the benefits it has on one’s mental and physical health overall.  I look forward to embarking on and sharing this Fitness journey throughout this semester.
