Graphic Design Draft Project

My idea for my Graphic Design Project was to inspire working out as an idea to push one to be the best that they can be and to inspire one’s self in doing so.  In this poster I chose to show the different types of activities and workouts that one can do on their own.  I chose to show the icon for swimming, biking, hiking, running and lifting.  I included these as they are activities that can be done in a gym but can also be done outdoors and without restrictions.  I chose to use a picture of San Francisco for the background as I felt it catered to a wide variety of people and portrayed a city of opportunity.

What inspired me in this project was the city of San Francisco.  I was scrolling through my photos and found this picture that I had taken.  It then made me think of all of the outdoor and physical activities that I partake in when I go home.  This then made me realize that this was perfect for my Graphic Design project, as the city inspires me to find opportunities and thus can have the same effect on others and their workout habits as well.

In my project I used Gestalt’s Theory to portray my ideas and to input them accordingly.  I made use of proximity and similarity specifically in this project, as this helped to interpret my message in a more obvious form.  I also made use of the idea visual harmony in my project. I matched my icons with the white colored city in the background and did the same with “Workout to Inspire” and matched these with the color of the bridge.

In order to create this inspirational poster, I made use of the application Photoshop.  In this I was able to reference back to the tutorials such as adjustment layers, text and effects, as well as cutouts and blending modes.  I did run into many obstacles when creating this poster, but I was able to give myself enough time to have many trials and errors in order to figure out the application and implement the tools that I needed in order to create my project.  The one tip that I can recommend is to give yourself time for trial and error.  Photoshop and the Adobe software are not easy to navigate and giving one’s self enough time to fail will allow for success in the end.

  1. I really like the design and meaning behind your project. San Francisco is a place that has a wide variety of activities and opportunities. I also like how it is personal to you and personality in projects leads to them being more interesting.

  2. You used some icons in your picture, that is a great idea to indicate your topic. And in the text, you explain your source of inspiration very well, and look for the subject that belongs to you through what happened in the past.

  3. I really like my project idea at first, but I did not like the way I executed my project. I think my project at first was a very complex idea, but the way I executed it was too simple. In my final project I will try to implement a more complex idea that shows many different types of working out and show this in many different situations. I will provide different pictures of working out, such as different opportunities and options for one to choose from. I will then add pictures from various places and events that add the idea that working out is not a chore and rather something that can make one feel better and inspired. I am going to add more complex ideas to my project and implement more tutorials into my final project.
